FSFIFTH PLACE FOR SUGDEN IN CANADA DRAMAS ON INDEPENDANCE DAY

AMERICAN LE MANS ENDURANCE SERIES

FIFTH PLACE FOR TIM IN CANADA

Tim Sugden and his partner in the American Le Mans Series, Justin Jackson finished 5th at Mosport, Toronto on Sunday.    In a very close race with none of the long pace car periods that proved so costly to J3 racing in recent events a slight problem with the tyres caused Tim to make a quick pit stop about 40 minutes from the end that cost one and possibly two places.

Justin Jackson started the race and ran the full period to half distance as there were no pace car periods that the team usually uses to make a driver change with less time lost on the track.   In the remaining 1.25 hours Time was able to move up from 8th to 5th running within a second per lap of the leaders pace.

The 2 hour 45minute race was reduced by 15 minutes because of the fuel shortages that are hitting North America since hurricane Katrina and the teams donated their prize money to the appeal funds being organised by American charity organisations and the Salvation Army.

The race was run in front of a very large crowd on “Labour Day Weekend” and the result improves Tim’s 5th place in the championship standings as it moves him within 3 points of 4th placed Scotsman Robin Liddell who drives for the works Panoz team.   The privately owned J3 team also maintained 4th place in the team standings so the objective of consolidating championship positions was achieved.

After a rare free weekend to be spent holidaying in France Tim moves to Istanbul and the new Turkish Grand Prix track for another FIA round where he will be hoping for a second win in a row to move closer to the lead of the Championship.
